Ballhog
Browser NBA trivia · multiplayer · solo ratings
Problem
Basketball trivia should feel like watching the game, not scrolling a spreadsheet. Most quizzes are static lists with no timing, no rooms, and no sense of whether you actually know ball.
Solution
I built Ballhog as a free browser game: see the face, name the hooper, fastest correct answer wins the round. Play with friends in a shared room or go solo for a 0–1000 knowledge rating from Casual to Savant.
Rooms sync over Socket.IO with a 20-second shot clock. Solo mode runs ten rounds with era filters (all eras, pre-2000s, post-2000s). Fuzzy search covers thousands of NBA names without accounts or downloads.
React · TypeScript · Node · Express · Socket.IO
| Piece | What |
|---|---|
| Frontend | React SPA, Vite, brutalist court UI |
| Realtime | Socket.IO rooms, synchronized rounds |
| Data | Searchable player pool + clue set with headshots |
| Solo | Ten-round rating ladder, decade filters |
